Commercial Production

A good commercial leaves a feeling in a few seconds. We turn your brand’s message into a story and run the whole process in one team, from script to shoot, edit to colour and sound.

What does our commercial production cover?

  • Creative idea and script
  • Storyboard and shooting plan
  • Casting, location and crew
  • Shooting and production management
  • Editing, colour grading, sound and music
  • Formats for TV, cinema, YouTube and social media

How is a commercial made?

We start by deciding what the film should say and where it will run. We present the idea and script for your approval and plan every detail before the shoot together. After the shoot we prepare the film in the length and format of each channel it will appear in.

  1. Brief and idea We discuss what the film should say, who will watch it and where it will run, and present creative ideas accordingly.
  2. Script and storyboard We turn the chosen idea into a script and a scene-by-scene storyboard for your approval.
  3. Pre-production We plan cast, locations, crew, equipment and the shooting schedule. Every detail is settled here so the shoot day holds no surprises.
  4. Shoot The director and production crew shoot the planned scenes; if needed, you can follow the shoot as it happens.
  5. Post-production We finish the film with editing, colour grading, sound design, music, voice-over and animation where needed.
  6. Formats and delivery We deliver the film in the lengths and aspect ratios required for TV, cinema, YouTube and social media.

Who are commercials for?

Brands that want to introduce a new product, a campaign or the brand itself to a wide audience.

Is one film enough for TV, cinema and digital?

Usually not. TV typically uses 15, 20 and 30-second spots, while on social media viewers decide in the first few seconds and mostly watch vertically. So before shooting we decide which channels the film will run on and plan the shoot with those versions in mind.

That way one shoot can produce a horizontal cut for TV, short vertical cuts for social media and a longer version for YouTube, without splitting the budget across several shoots.

What makes a good commercial brief?

The clearer the brief, the better the idea and the budget fit. You don’t need to write a long document; in the first meeting we answer these questions together:

  • What should the film say, and what should viewers do next?
  • Who are we talking to?
  • Which channels will it run on, and in what lengths?
  • Which brand elements are non-negotiable: logo, tagline, colour, sound?
  • Launch date and an approximate budget range
  • Films you like, or want to avoid

What determines the cost of a commercial?

Commercial budgets vary widely with the scale of the idea and the production. Once the script is settled we prepare an itemised budget. The main cost drivers are:

  • Number of shooting days and locations
  • Cast, extras and voice-over
  • Set, props, costume and art direction
  • Crew size and special equipment: drones, sliders, specialist cameras and lighting
  • Scope of animation, effects and colour grading
  • Licensed music or an original score, and the number of versions delivered

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to make a commercial?

It depends on the scope. A digital film shot in one location with a small cast can often be finished in a few weeks; productions with several locations, larger casts or animation take longer. We set the schedule, with shoot and delivery dates, once the script is approved.

Do you find the cast, locations and crew?

Yes. Casting, location scouting, permits, crew and equipment are all planned by us as part of the production, and we share the choices for your approval. If you would like your own staff or premises to appear, we build the shoot around that.

In which formats is the film delivered?

We deliver for every channel the film will run on: horizontal, broadcast-ready files for TV and cinema, vertical and square versions for social media, and short cuts in different lengths. We agree which versions are needed before the shoot.

How is music chosen for a commercial?

There are two routes: licensing an existing track or commissioning an original score. With licensed music, usage rights depend on the channels and duration of the campaign, so they need to be settled up front. We weigh the options together against budget and usage.
